One method is called faux finish which I believe was from French word meaning false or fake.
This is an excellent way to make your room look different and very interesting.
There's all kinds of techniques with faux finish involving many different types of tools but always consists of two basic items the paint that you using and glaze. Faux finish really is a personal touch and go to painters will give you the same result.
Then there is graphic type decorative painting this is most commonly used in commercial type situations. These kind of things would be lines running across the wall, borders, feature walls.
Kids rooms now this is a good one I'm not a psychologist but I do know that color effects people psyche. Did you know when a baby is born it only sees Black white and gray and in around a week later he or she will start seeing red. and blue will come eventually later. I think that anyone painting a baby's room or small small kids room shoes just stick with soft tone colors is their primary ones.
I have done entrance ways with faux finish to protect the walls against people getting in dirty from taking the shoes off and leaning up against the wall with a dirty hands. This generally was a second step to the finish on the wall using a painting glaze mixture applied to the wall sometimes SMOOSHING (this is where you put a very thin thin sheet of plastic onto the wet glaze crinkled up to in different fashions, and then just remove the plastic carefully) RAGGING ( this is where you apply the glaze mixture with either a brush or roller in sections, and then start pulling it off with a clean slightly damp cloth turning a cloth over to a fresh spot and they just simply replace the cloth when it's to full of mixture .) COLORWASHING ( this is where you take a sea sponge or some kind of a soft cloth dipping it into the glazing mixture and then just start wiping the wall to achieve the effect.
Also sometimes later is sprinkled into wet paint for certain effects.
Venetian plastering is also very neat and interesting method where you put different layers of color over top of each other to create an effect of depth, people will wonder how you painted this but you won't tell them.
And the list goes on and on for very as different methods of fancy finishes. |
